Ayurvedic Fall Cleanse with Amanda DiGiovanna Sun. Oct. 14th 6 - 9 p.m. + Full Week of Support

-->
WHAT ON EARTH IS AYURVEDA?
Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga. It’s an ancient method of natural medicine, using herbs and simple daily practices to bring the body to a state of glowing health and balance. Start to reverse the aging process, avoid getting sick, and lose any unwanted weight. Considered one of the greatest gifts of Yoga and growing in popularity across America. Used by celebrities, yoga practitioners and now you can learn all the secrets to perfect health enjoyed by yogi’s for over 5000 years.

WHY CLEANSE?
Balance the Body/hormones/systems- Get back to your natural state
Increase Self Worth- When the body gets healthy and clear the mind follows
Spring Cleaning! Detoxify and Create space for next season
Lose Weight-Jumpstart your weight loss before bikini season!
Boost Energy- Uncover your inner fire
Reduce Inflammation (under eye circles decrease, eliminate swelling in joints, improves skin quality)

WHY CLEANSE NOW? Ayurveda has deep understanding of the body’s rhythms. The body is always naturally moving towards homeostasis (balance). During this transition between Fall and Winter it naturally starts to release toxins. The ancient wisdom of the yogis teaches us that if we do not help the body to remove these toxins they will get reabsorbed. This is why people usually get sick about 22 days after a transition period!

WHAT WILL YOU GET DURING THIS CLEANSE?
Lessons on daily practices like self massage and oil pulling
A personal dosha (constitution) evaluation
All the food, spices, teas and supplements you’ll need
All the items you need for ancient daily rituals (tongue cleaner, neti pot, organic sesame oil, nasya oil
3 yoga class passes to Revolution Yoga during your cleanse (we have classes for all levels of experience)
All the printouts and educational materials you will need to finish the cleanse
We will have one 3 hour workshop on Sunday October 14th 6:00 - 9:00 p.m to discuss the basics of Ayurveda. Gita Wisdom translated and commented by popular lecturer Joshua M. Greene is the story-within-the-story of Prince Arjuna who, on the verge of battle and foreseeing the carnage to come, turns to his friend and adviser Krishna who also serves as Arjuna’s charioteer. Their dialogue comprises India’s most beloved scripture theBhagavad Gita, whose enduring message is love’s transformative power even in the most dire of circumstances. Gita Wisdom offers scholars and general readers alike a superb summary to this seminal wisdom text.

“This is a welcome, recommended, and thoroughly reader-friendly addition to our understanding of Eastern spiritual literature.”
— Five Stars, Midwest Book Review

“This is an important introduction to the sacred Gita. Joshua beautifully sings the song of God making it accessible and heartfelt—a wonderful tribute to the role of Bhakti in all Yoga practices.”

MONTHLY YOGA BOOK CLUB AT REVOLUTION YOGA BEGINNING SUNDAY, JUNE 24th 4-6 p.m.

Nourish your body *AND* your mind!

A quality yoga practice is, in a sense, comparable to a good book: both are rich, nuanced, and deeply felt. Everyone’s body has a unique way of expressing the same postures. Similarly, we each have a unique interpretation of and relationship to the books we read...

Both books and yoga are rife with metaphor; while emotions are stored symbolically in the body, characters and plot in stories reflect the people and events in our own lives. Both yoga and literature can inspire us to think and feel -- can feed us creatively, emotionally and spiritually. Ultimately, both hold the power to transform us. Just as our bodies internalize and reflexively recall yoga asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (yogic breath awareness and regulation), the books we love become a part of us, taking up permanent residence in our minds and hearts.

Each month, club members will read a book that speaks to many of the same concepts expressed and explored through the practice of yoga. They will then have the opportunity to discuss this book in a comfortable, supportive community of fellow readers, thinkers, and appreciators of literature. All are invited to comment, pose questions, and voice their responses. In June, the book-of-the-month will be Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

Book description from amazon.com:

Herman Hesse's Siddhartha is perhaps the most important and compelling moral allegory the 20th century ever produced. Integrating Eastern and Western spiritual traditions with psychoanalysis and philosophy, this strangely simple tale, written with a deep and moving empathy for humanity, has touched the lives of millions since its original publication in 1922.

Set in India, Siddhartha is the story of a young Brahmin's search for ultimate reality after meeting with the Buddha. His quest takes him from a life of decadence to asceticism, from the illusory joys of sensual love with a beautiful courtesan, and of wealth and fame, to the painful struggles with his son and the ultimate wisdom of renunciation

June's book club meeting will take place at the studio at 4 PM on the Sunday, the 24th. We kindly request that participants order their own copies (we recommend half.com or amazon.com!) as soon as possible.

Sunday, JUNE 24th 4-6 p.m.
Cost of Attendance: $20/person

Jeanette Geraci will facilitate the book club discussion. Jeanette is a 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher, former Karma Yogi at Revolution, and passionate yoga practitioner.  She holds a B.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College and plans to earn her Masters in Secondary English Education. Her original poetry has been featured in a variety of literary journals.

Special Thai Yoga Massage Workshop Saturday, May 19th 1 - 3:30 p.m.

Please join Justin Green (Kripalu) for a special Thai Yoga Massage workshop
Saturday
May 19th
1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Thai Yoga massage creates an energetic dance between giver and receiver. It combines deep rhythmic acupressure to muscles and sen (energy) lines while moving the body into assisted stretches and yoga postures.

It is practiced on a mat on the ground, without the use of oils or lotions, and the receiver is fully clothed during the session. A treatment can range from slow, gentle movements to deep stretches and compression, depending on the current needs of the receiver. It is truly accessible for all body types and is beneficial for almost all physical conditions.

The energetic dance inherent in a Thai Yoga session leaves the receiver feeling both relaxed and energized. There is often a sensing of grounding and feeling ‘back in one’s body.’ Many people have a hard time returning to the standard table massage after receiving their first Thai session! In this workshop we will be opening hips and heart.

As a yoga instructor, this is a wonderful addition to your teaching practice and helps with hands on adjustments in classes. For the yoga student these are wonderful techniques to take home to spoil your loved ones with.

Attendance Fees: $35 Per Person IN ADVANCE / $40 Per Person Day Of

Sensei Marco Certified Budokon Teacher and Founder at I.Fly Flying Trapeze and Aerial Arts

Marco was introduced to Budokon 2006 while working as an aerialist and flying trapeze artist. He was drawn to the fluidity of the practice coupled with its strength and control, and to the way being completely present and moving with intention were pivotal. Four years later in 2010, he was finally able to devote time to the practice and studied it more in depth and became a certified teacher. Budokon became a means of maintaining a physical practice and staying disciplined while outside of the circus arena.  In the air and on the ground, Marco believes that all movement should have intent an purpose and spends most of his time practicing Budokon with Sensei Derek in NYC.

Sensei Derek Regional Director of Budokon NY and Ambassador for Lululemon Union Square

Derek discovered his love of movement and the body after a childhood of health problems, weight issues, joint problems and other physical ailments played a large part in my young life.
“After years of misunderstanding and mistreating my body I discovered the benefits of running and began to head down the path of physical health and wellness.  Running lead me to the gym which gave me the ability to begin my first version of a yoga practice.  This yogic workout opened my mind to the idea of yoga s a practice and over time, I found my own teachers who helped to guide me to the path of a healer, though even they did not know it then.  …In recent years, I have immersed myself in an understanding of the body and
movement and cultivated an intuitive sense for healing.  I have discovered a
badly hidden passion for teaching and guiding others.  I have chosen to
answer a relentless call to help others.  I have been blessed enough to find
many different outlets for this.  Budokon, Yoga and Thai Bodywork all act as
tools to aid me in guiding others to health and well being, and to enable them
to continue the work we begin on the mat. “
