Thai Yoga Massage + Partner Yoga Workshop Sunday 11/6 1 - 4 p.m.

SIGN UP HERE

DATE: November 6, 2011
TIME: 1-4 pm
PRICE: $35

Thai Yoga Massage is unique in that, during a session, both receiver AND giver benefit from the presence and connection that occurs. Bliss, in this case, is a two way street. This often-overlooked phenomenon was part of the inspiration for creating the Anjali Massage Project, a collaboration of like-minded people teaching Thai massage to underserved populations. More recently, AMP is joining forces with Project: Embody, a local organization that seeks to introduce body-centered tools to youth and college-age students.

Justin is a Kripalu-trained massage therapist, teacher and mental health practitioner specializing in Thai Yoga Massage, Myofascial Therapy, and customized bodywork for populations with special needs. Justin has studied Thai massage with Michael Sitzer, Shai Plonski of the Lotus Palm Institute, and several teachers in Thailand (most notably at the Sunshine School in Chiang Mai). His own personal practice, including Thai massage, is aligned with the Kripalu style of bodywork that emphasizes quality of touch, presence, and our innate ability to simply be with another person in a caring way.

Justin maintains a small private practice in the Berkshires and teaches workshops and trainings throughout New England. He also works as a Youth Development Counselor with troubled adolescents and continues to share the benefits of Thai massage through the Anjali Massage Project.

Amanda founded Revolution Yoga out of the idea that Yoga will change your life! It's a personal Revolution leading to a healthier body and a happier state of mind. Yoga means union, so in your practice we create unison between the mind, body and every side of yourself. I've created a space that not only nourishes through these ancient practices but also inspires with Art, Music, Literature, Community, Volunteering, Creativity and anything else that stokes your inner fire and re-ignites the spark of feeling at home and blissed out in YOUR mind, YOUR body and YOUR life.

She began her personal Yoga practice at the age of 12 after her mother heralded its ability to relieve her scoliosis and sciatica symptoms. The practice stayed with her ever since helping her through life’s trials and tribulations. While studying to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University at Albany she worked three years as an Emergency Medical Technician for New York State and Medical Assistant at a Cardiovascular Hospital. She also studied Natural Therapies at Lorenzo De Medici Univeristy in Florence, Italy. The most important thing all of her medical study and experience taught her about good health is prevention.

This Sunday November 6th 1 - 4 p.m. $35

·      No yoga or massage experience necessary, nor is it necessary to come with a partner.

Justin Green Sitting in Grass
"We often think of giving massage as something that requires effort. When we learn that we can give massage in a way that is comfortable and easy - and, mostly importantly, love-filled - our ability to connect with people in this way completely changes. This ability is becoming more and more necessary as our culture becomes more and more touch deprived. Our world needs more compassionate, caring, genuine connection. What better way to do that than through Thai massage? I often describe Thai massage as cuddling but with more technique. The core principle is the same for both: caring touch. “Caring,” meaning, “accepting in this moment without judgment.” In other words, loving touch. And the power of loving touch is remarkable."

"Yoga is a process tediously tweaked over thousands of years and could not be a more wholesome approach to prevention; Disease prevention and what I like to call "freak-out prevention". Yoga asana (physical practice) tones the nervous system so you are not so apt to "freak-out" over little things. It teaches the body to detoxify, strengthen, align, relax and most importantly heal itself. Yoga philosophy teaches the mind the tools it needs to face anything and emerge contented and happy. Yoga is a specific science, laid out for the student to experiment with step by step. When you step onto your yoga mat you will be encouraged to have your own personal experience, find what works for you, and apply it to your life. "

"Partner Yoga positively benefits the nervous system and all of the organs/ glands leading to boosted immunity, reversing the aging process, better sleep, better sex, lifted mood and a whole slew of positive benefits. Adding a partner means being able to go deeper into every posture. Deeper twists, deeper forward folds, supported backbends, leading to double the benefits."

September Revolution Yoga Intention of the Month: Community

September Revolution Yoga intention of the Month: Community
By Bec Gathmann and Amanda DiGiovanna

Before we opened Revolution Yoga we created our intention, which was to define, build and create a dynamic community of yogis, on and off the mat. Brick by brick, to build a center where we can grow, body and soul, and exponentially share that growth with the people in our lives.

Community is everything. If you want to see a preview of your life 10 years down the road, look at the people around you, who you share all of your time, thoughts, dreams and aspirations with. Those who expose you to new ideas, movies, books, and experiences. It’s no wonder we start to become like the people in our closest circles. We form rituals and patterns together, all being creatures of habit, it’s the way our brains are built.

Coined “social contagion”, if your friends have healthy habits you will too. If your friends have unhealthy habits it’s very likely you will follow suit, even if it’s as subtle as an unhealthy thought. That’s why it is so important to carefully choose who you have in your circle. If someone around you is trashing your dreams, you may start to believe them. An idea is a powerful thing, it turns into a thought pattern and our thought patterns define our actions; where we go and what we do in life.

If we water the seeds of our dreams with doubt, they will never blossom. Instead this month with the cycle of a new Fall Season among us, we are calling for a ‘mind revolution’ of sorts. Water your dreams and passions with inspiration every day. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, encourage you and challenge you to be better. It strengthens your resolve to be with like minded folk. It will reinforce the peace you are trying to find on the path of yoga. There will be ups and downs so it's important to keep good company to keep you walking down the right path making you the one who “contaminates’ your friends and family with happiness. It's a brilliant cycle where everyone benefits.

Revolution is the hub of the wheel, around which spins the beautiful people and practices; asana, philosophy, breath, devotion, self-study -solidifying this intentional community. By coming into this space the students and teachers are growing together, day by day we are giving ourselves that little extra “oomph” to go out and grab our dreams. We get that burst of inspiration and energy to look fear in the face and say “forget you, I’m going for it.”

By constantly learning we refine our practice; we refine our bodies, we refine our minds, and we ground ourselves in the present moment. By being present, we are better wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, children, friends, workers, we become better towards strangers and use each breath to reconnect with the world around us. You are changing your community and the world by bettering yourself and serving your highest potential. So shed whatever and whoever is holding you back.

Peace and Love,
Amanda DiGiovanna and the good folks at Revolution Yoga.

Sunday October 9th 3:00 p.m. Fall Restorative Workshop with Eva

It´s started… the days are shorter, the cool, crisp mornings bring with them a sense of new beginnings, a desire to get organized, buckle down and get ourselves back in gear.  The trees no longer look as green as they were just one month ago and the sun decides to sleep in a little while longer each morning. This is the end of summer, and the beginning of a colder, less lazy season. Fall is a time of change and is often the busiest season of the year, when most people must say goodbye to their time of relaxation in the summer and return to their responsibilities and obligations at school and at work. In the transition from summer to fall one can feel easily out of balance. But, the end of summer does not have to signify the end of relaxation. You can rejuvenate and reenergize even in the face of what seems to be endless work. I invite you to join me for a Restorative Yoga/Nidra workshop that will help you feel as relaxed as if it were still the warm summer!

Set in an inspiring atmosphere of glowing candles and filled with gentle, soothing music, I will guide you through a series of restorative yoga poses, delightful stretches, deep relaxation and Yoga Nidra, a simple guided meditation. This restorative workshop will focus on energizing Mooladhara Chakra, the root chakra, which is located at the base of the spine. Mooladhara represents the earth element, our sense of stability, groundedness, sense of survival, security in our personal relationships and finances.

For an added special treat, you will receive gentle hands on attention with the aroma of essential oils. You will leave feeling completely grounded, balanced and relaxed.  Be ready to lose track of time and let go of the outside world! Please dress warmly in comfortable layers: cozy socks, sweats, tank top, light jacket.

The workshop will be held on Sunday Oct. 9th at 3 PM; The fee for participants is $35 or $65 for partners.
