Hurricane Irene! Studio Closed Sunday August 28th-please keep safe!

Oh boy is there a storm a brewin!  The eye wall of Irene will pass close to the city Sunday. There is an elevated risk of flooding rain and damaging winds throughout the metro area including the northern and western suburbs. Expect significant coastal flooding. hurricane force wind gusts (95mph) are in store which will lead to downed trees, as well as wide spread power outages in outlying areas. Sustained hurricane force winds are likely on Long Island and coastal Connecticut. Coastal areas can expect and average storm surge of 2-4 feet, but locally higher. Waves will top sea walls Sunday.
Keep a list of personal emergency numbers in your possession. Keep your cell phone charged. Keep your car gas tank at least half full at all times. Carry bottled water and snacks. Fill up your bathtub for fresh water in case anything happens to the municipals. Keep your car stocked with blanket, first aid kit, Take pictures of valuable household items. for insurance purposes. Keep extra cash on hand.-American National Red Cross
A storm like this is a big reminder that we don't have much control over the world around us, but we do have control over the world inside of us. How we prepare, how we react, how we selflessly help our neighbors and friends during hard or scary times. When you feel anxiety revving up think twice before over reacting. Instead take a step back then be proactive. We have this community for a reason, reach out if a fellow student or friend needs a place to evacuate to, offer your home, offer your help. Get extra flashlights or canned goods in case someone in your neighborhood forgot to prepare if something really does go wrong.
One big positive about being stuck inside during a big storm is getting to spend some uninterrupted time with loved ones and yourself. Read, break out the board games and cards, meditate, roll out the mat and start up a home practice. Alternate Nostril Breathing to calm a frantic mind, and if you're really freaking out! Forward folding with a long exhale will calm the nervous system. Stay tuned for Monday's Class Schedule and please all Be Safe.
