MONTHLY YOGA BOOK CLUB AT REVOLUTION YOGA BEGINNING SUNDAY, JUNE 24th 4-6 p.m.

Nourish your body *AND* your mind!

A quality yoga practice is, in a sense, comparable to a good book: both are rich, nuanced, and deeply felt. Everyone’s body has a unique way of expressing the same postures. Similarly, we each have a unique interpretation of and relationship to the books we read...

Both books and yoga are rife with metaphor; while emotions are stored symbolically in the body, characters and plot in stories reflect the people and events in our own lives. Both yoga and literature can inspire us to think and feel -- can feed us creatively, emotionally and spiritually. Ultimately, both hold the power to transform us. Just as our bodies internalize and reflexively recall yoga asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (yogic breath awareness and regulation), the books we love become a part of us, taking up permanent residence in our minds and hearts.

Each month, club members will read a book that speaks to many of the same concepts expressed and explored through the practice of yoga. They will then have the opportunity to discuss this book in a comfortable, supportive community of fellow readers, thinkers, and appreciators of literature. All are invited to comment, pose questions, and voice their responses. In June, the book-of-the-month will be Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

Book description from amazon.com:

Herman Hesse's Siddhartha is perhaps the most important and compelling moral allegory the 20th century ever produced. Integrating Eastern and Western spiritual traditions with psychoanalysis and philosophy, this strangely simple tale, written with a deep and moving empathy for humanity, has touched the lives of millions since its original publication in 1922.

Set in India, Siddhartha is the story of a young Brahmin's search for ultimate reality after meeting with the Buddha. His quest takes him from a life of decadence to asceticism, from the illusory joys of sensual love with a beautiful courtesan, and of wealth and fame, to the painful struggles with his son and the ultimate wisdom of renunciation

June's book club meeting will take place at the studio at 4 PM on the Sunday, the 24th. We kindly request that participants order their own copies (we recommend half.com or amazon.com!) as soon as possible.

Sunday, JUNE 24th 4-6 p.m.
Cost of Attendance: $20/person

Jeanette Geraci will facilitate the book club discussion. Jeanette is a 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher, former Karma Yogi at Revolution, and passionate yoga practitioner.  She holds a B.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College and plans to earn her Masters in Secondary English Education.
